My First Stitchery Blog Post!

The Best Embroidery Blog for Students!

 Hello dear friends,

Hand embroidery techniques.

Welcome to Tiny Strand Stitchery, My digital scrapbook of all things hand embroidery.

But first let me tell you a little about myself. I am Janice Deonne De Silva, designer and embroidery artist… and now, teacher! My diploma in dressmaking and design from Penn State gave me a strong foundation in needlework… Their modules on Fabrics, and clothing decoration and accents left me fascinated by Embroidery.

I have also learned so much from my favorite embroidery artists Judith Baker Montano, Tatiana Popova and Di Van Nickerk amoung others.

Professionally, I work under the brand Deonne D. and Tiny Strand Sitichery on Pinterest and Instagram and Deonne's World on Facebook. I am very new to the profession of teaching hand embroidery, yet enjoying it emencely.

Picking Up a Needle and Thread

My mother and grand-mother, were the dressmakers and embroiders in my family; known to their clients for “the neatest sewing and embroidery”. So I was exposed to sewing and embroidery from a young age.

Picking up an embroidery needle didn’t happen until I discovered my love for the intricacies of working the varied hand stitches. And, I have been crazy about embroidery for over 20 years.

And over those years my fascination with crewel embroidery, ribbon embroidery, bead embroidery and beading techniques, and the many ways of using these wonderful techniques have developed in me a never-ending creative experience.
